Artdego 2013

Artdego 2013 was a hot ticket in Auckland this year. After the success of last year’s event the challenge was on to make this year bigger and better – to achieve the same “wow” factor as last year, despite the attendees’ expectations being higher than ever.

What a great achievement.

Nautilus Estate was involved as guests arrived – they were offered a glass of the ever-popular Nautilus Cuvee Marlborough Brut NV, and then Nautilus Pinot Noir 2011 was paired with the photography of Laura Forest and cuisine of Ed Verner. I was so proud for our wines to be associated with these talented individuals.

Ed’s dish was a delicious combination of flavours based around venison but presented with pork scotch, goats curd, red seaweed and geranium. It was beautifully presented on the plate – a perfect interpretation of Laura’s work incorporating foraged ingredients and beautiful flowers. The wine matched beautifully with the Pinot Noir 2011 and I think that this particular vintage has an ethereal quality to it that pairs perfectly with the “dreamlike” note in Laura’s art.

Laura Forest’s amazing artwork – I love the link between the beautiful flowers and the slightly confronting plate of offal.

Check out their blog post about the event for more details and images of their work. And do make sure you track down a ticket for next year’s event.
