Nautilus Cuvée Marlborough Brut NV has long been regarded as one of NZ’s top sparkling wines. This NV is so good that we have resisted the temptation to produce a vintage wine as we just don’t see how we could make it any better.
However recently we got thinking about something a little different and Wednesday 16th October saw the launch of our new vintage sparkling rosé, a special commemorative edition wine crafted to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Nautilus Estate’s friends and partners at the Royal New Zealand Ballet. It is available in strictly limited quantities with only two hundred dozen produced.
Nautilus Vintage Rose launched 16th October 2013
Made in the ‘traditional method’ of sparkling winemaking as used in Champagne, and from 100% Pinot Noir grapes in the 2011 vintage, the wine is now disgorged and ready to enjoy. The perfect gift for Christmas, each bottle of this collector’s edition will come in a beautiful ballet-themed gift box.
Winemaker Clive Jones says: “Pinot Noir has always been the basis and main component of our Nautilus Cuvee blend. Ten years ago we planted some new clone Pinot Noir (115 & 777) on a site suited to sparkling wine and the natural fruit character we saw from this site got us thinking about a single site 100% Pinot Noir Cuvée Rosé. After a number of trials we laid down our first tirage in Sept 2011 and Nautilus Vintage Rosé 2011 was born.”
Amanda Skoog, Managing Director of the Royal New Zealand Ballet comments that: “Our relationship with Nautilus Estate of Marlborough is a very special partnership. This has been a year of celebration for the Royal New Zealand Ballet, and wines from Nautilus have been a wonderful accompaniment to some memorable occasions. We are thrilled, and deeply honoured, that Nautilus has chosen to mark the 60th birthday of New Zealand’s national ballet company with the launch of Nautilus Vintage Rosé 2011.”
The Nautilus Vintage Rosé 2011 is already getting rave reviews – Michael Cooper recently said it is “one of the best ever sparkling rosé’s made in New Zealand” on National Radio.
