Marlborough Pinot Gris 2011

New Zealand Pinot Gris and Grigios come in a wide variety of styles. Nautilus Pinot Gris has always been inspired more by the wines of Alsace than anywhere else, and has always been produced in a relatively dry style for the region.
Nautilus Pinot Gris is sourced predominantly from our Awatere Vineyard which provides great purity of fruit and focus to the wine’s structure.
The grapes are 100% handpicked and whole bunch pressed with 15% being barrel fermented. Three months’ lees stirring gives a creamy rich texture.

Nautilus Marlborough Pinot Gris 2011

91 Points -"Quite tightly bound on the nose, with crisp citrus, white peach and nectarine characters, as well as hints of nougat, marzipan and riverstone. Clean, stony acidity drives the wine along nicely, propelling it to a persistent finish showing great balance and appeal." Nick Stock, Good Wine Guide, November 2012

4½ stars -"The 2011 vintage was mostly estate-grown and hand-picked in the Awatere Valley, and made with a subtle oak influence (10% fermented in old French barrels). An off-dry style (5 g/L of residual sugar), poised and youthful, it is full-bodied, with very fresh and vibrant, pure pear, lychee and spice flavours, it is rich, with lees-aging complexity and good cellaring potential." Michael Cooper Buyer's Guide to New Zealand Wines 2013, 13 November 2012

"Poised, youthful wine, grown mostly in the Awatere Valley and hand-harvested. Full-bodied, with very fresh and vibrant, pure pear, lychee and spice flavours, and a dryish finish. Rich, with lees-aging complexity and good cellaring potential." Michael Cooper, Winestate, May 2012
